NPORS Plant Mover
The National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) Plant Mover Training Course is designed for candidates who are required to move various types of plant machinery within a site, yard, or confined area. This course is ideal for individuals working in construction, civil engineering, plant hire, logistics, and warehousing, where plant needs to be relocated safely and efficiently without being operated for productive work.
What does the course cover?
The NPORS Plant Mover course focuses on the safe and efficient movement of wheeled or tracked plant equipment, emphasising:
Understanding the Role of a Plant Mover: Duties and responsibilities compared to full plant operators.
Health & Safety Regulations: Key regulations such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, PUWER, and LOLER.
Pre-Use Checks: Visual and functional checks to ensure machinery is safe to move.
Machine Types & Capabilities: Familiarity with different plant types and safe movement based on their characteristics.
Site Assessment & Route Planning: Assessing routes, avoiding obstructions, and planning safe travel paths.
Safe Mounting and Dismounting: Practicing correct techniques.
Machine Control and Manoeuvering: Starting, stopping, steering, and manoeuvering in various conditions.
Hazard and Pedestrian Safety Awareness: Identifying and managing site risks like blind spots and pedestrian routes.
PPE: Identifying and maintaining appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
Shutdown and Securing Procedures: Learning to correctly shut down, park, and secure the machine after relocation.

Course certification
Upon successful completion, individuals receive an NPORS Operator Card, valid for five years. Depending on whether a relevant NVQ is held and if the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test has been passed within the last two years, the card will either be a Trained Operator card (valid for two years, requiring the achievement of the relevant NVQ) or a Competent Operator card (valid for five years). The NPORS card is widely recognised across the UK, including on BuildUK and CITB sites.
Prerequisites
A good understanding of spoken and written English is required. Candidates who wish to have the ‘HS&E TESTED Logo’ on their card must have passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the two years prior to application.
