Abrasive Wheels Training Course
This training course is designed to educate individuals on the safe use and handling of abrasive wheel equipment like angle grinders, bench grinders, and cut-off saws. The course aim to raise awareness of potential hazards, reduce risks, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Who needs this training?
Anyone who uses, mounts, inspects, or supervises the operation of abrasive wheels in the workplace should undertake abrasive wheels training. This includes machine operators, supervisors, and managers. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) legally mandates that all employees who operate abrasive wheels receive appropriate information, instruction, and training.
Course content and objectives
Legislation: Understanding the legal requirements related to abrasive wheels, including PUWER 98.
Abrasive wheel characteristics: Identifying different types of wheels, their composition, and marking systems.
Hazards and precautions: Recognizing potential dangers associated with abrasive wheel use and implementing necessary safety measures.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Selecting and using appropriate PPE for abrasive wheel operations.
Storage and handling: Properly storing and handling abrasive wheels to prevent damage and ensure safety.
Inspection and testing: Learning to inspect abrasive wheels for damage and perform necessary tests.
Mounting procedures: Understanding and applying correct mounting procedures for various abrasive wheel types.
Guarding and safety features: Familiarizing oneself with the purpose and proper use of safety guards and other equipment features.
Safe operating procedures: Developing skills to safely operate equipment involving abrasive wheels.
The overall objective of the training is to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to use abrasive wheels safely and in compliance with regulations.
